WAMS-Supported Power Mismatch Optimization for Secure Intentional Islanding

It is expected that a coordinated operation of several system integrity protection schemes will become necessity in the future. This research represents an innovative strategy for coordinating under-frequency load shedding and intentional controlled islanding improving electric power stability resilience. In great majority real-world cases, both approaches follow conventional tactics, i.e., disconnecting fixed number feeders at predefined frequency thresholds isolating area regardless actual conditions. Under newly arisen network conditions which weather-dependent distributed energy sources introduce significant level intermittency, need to be upgraded order retain high security. this paper, mixed-integer linear programming approach used adjust island size, including/excluding additional substations according available amount generation region. The fine-tuning rebalancing achieved by potentially blocking selected stages. minimizes imbalance formed islands, helps reduce partial or even total blackouts also accelerates system’s restoration process. optimization was tested on generic IEEE 39-bus shows promising results along with capability coping applications using wide-area monitoring systems as source real-time measurements. indicated importance appropriate modelling since voltage dependence are recognized have effect islanding.
